SUMMARY:Architecture of Guilford Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Ann Giroux\, architectural historian\, and former Guilford resident\, for a 90-minute walking tour of Baltimore’s historic Guilford neighborhood. The tour will focus on the Roland Park Company’s architectural program and the Olmsted Brothers’ landscape plan for this early streetcar suburb. The tour will include a stop at Sherwood Gardens\, a natural respite in Baltimore City for over 100 years. The gardens are privately supported and rely on visitors’ generosity to keep them in bloom yearly for everyone to enjoy. A portion of each ticket sale will go towards the upkeep of this beautiful garden space. \nWhile not a strenuous walk\, this walking tour is suitable for active walkers due to the duration. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Wheelabrator Tour: The Baltimore Incinerator
DESCRIPTION:Entering the city from the south\, you’ve definitely taken note of the large smokestack along the highway. This stack is part of Waste Innovation’s Baltimore Wheelabrator facility also known as BRESCO (Baltimore Refuse Energy Systems Company)\, a waste-to-energy facility that has been operating since 1985. This facility manages nearly a million tons of waste each year\, converting it into renewable energy to help power the city and diverting excess waste from landfills. \nJoin Baltimore Architecture Foundation as we open the doors for a rare opportunity to see inside of this facility. Attendees will witness what is behind the iconic circle window\, potentially meet Gwynda the Good Wheel of the West\, discover how composting is tied into this facility\, all while learning about the process that turns trash into energy! \nPlease note\, this will be nearly a 90-minute tour requiring attendees to climb two flights of stairs. Regretfully\, this is not an accessible tour. Baltimore Architecture Foundation also would like to acknowledge that while waste-to-energy is a divisive topic\, please utilize this tour to explore the inner workings of the city and keep any questions respectful. \nEVENT HAS SOLD OUT.
